Book of Proverbs

In the book of Proverbs are found many ancient
but timeless
words of wisdom. In the first nine chapters,
a father gives advice and instruction to his son. Following this are numerous proverbs, concise and often witty. Some Reggae song lyrics are composed almost entirely from collections of these wise sayings. See, for example, '
Words Of Wisdom' by Max Romeo, 'Words Of Wisdom' by Dennis Brown, or 'Wisdom' by Bob Marley.

Proverbs 10:15 - The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
The rich man thinking himself safe and secure because he has wealth will find it does not protect him. The poor man living in miserable poverty becomes depressed and cannot see past the hopelessness of his circumstances. Meanwhile, it is possible to live in comfort despite having few possessions, by simply being content and trusting in God's providence. See, for example, '
Wisdom', by Bob Marley.

Proverbs 10:21 - The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
The Hebrew words translated as 'fool' imply one who is immoral. Unlike the righteous, therefore, fools not only fail to aid others, but also bring about their own downfall. See, for example, '
Fools Die', by Peter Tosh.
